Revealed: JetBlue's Loving Embrace of Eero Saarinen
Wednesday, December 7, 2005, by Lockhart

Blogger Enplaned (yes, a dedicated aerospace blog—totally awesome) uncovers the first image we've seen of JetBlue's much-discussed terminal expansion at JFK. Do you see what I see? Yup:
Note the ex-TWA Saarinen terminal in the forecourt. This has caused much angst among modern architecture preservationists, who can't get it through their heads that the building is functionally obsolete, however beautiful it may be. Activists seriously want the building preserved as a working terminal. Good background piece here, including some photos. More photos here. We're OK with JetBlue's solution.
As are we, actually, insofar as we'd rather see Saarinen's terminal used for air traffic than, say,
giant raging hipster parties.

Architecture,
JetBlue is great - they seem to do everything right.
At first glance it looks good - at least there are links between the Saarinen terminal and the new one. But, with all the vehicular traffic going directly to the new terminal, who will go "backwards" to the old one. Just curious architects with time to kill? Maybe foot traffic from the AirTrain goes through it?
I thought JetBlue did quite wrong when they painted their concrete I.M. Pei terminal white to serve the twisted master of branding.
Does it have any sort of functionality other the potentially the site of the hippest airport bar in the country?
