184 Kent Update: Unlandmarked Again

Friday, December 9, 2005, by Lockhart

Like all good urban planning sagas, it ended with whimper. The City Council yesterday overrode Mayor Bloomberg's overruling of their unlandmarking of 184 Kent—Williamsburg's low-slung Austin, Nichols Warehouse, for those just joining us. Which means that's pretty much that. Though the Council did redeem themselves, in a subtle sort of way. Reports the Post, "They overrode Mayor Bloomberg's veto of a bill suspending alternate-side parking for Diwali, a Hindu holiday."

Mazel Tov to Moshe and the whole family.
Do with the building whatever you want, it's your property.

Hopefully this veto also procludes landmarks from trying to re-landmark it again.

Landmarking should be voluntary, not imposed by third parties, unless they want to pick up the tab.

City Council show themselves to be both insensitive to the community and pandering to it in subsequent bills. Charming.

PJ, and this is new? I think its in the job description. Anyone who runs for city council should be considered immoral until proven otherwise. And I'm usually an optimist.

Watching the Council meeting in action was like watching the birth of communism in our local government. I'd like to honor Comrade Melinda Katz in her efforts to persuade that it is not the business of other council members to go against another comrades desires for his district. Since Comrade David Yassky did not want the building designated as a landmark- case closed end of discussion. All bow before the dictator of District 33 David Yassky.

You guys are all too funny up there. Moshe, you stuck it to us tenants in the name of more money. But I suppose you'll never feel it because we are not part of your community. I do wish you and your family all the best. -D.
