Whole Foods Update: Brace Yourself For April

Monday, September 18, 2006, by Joshua

2006_01_wfoodavalon2.jpgJust landed: breaking gourmet grocery news from the left coast. A tipster files this report from the Bank of America investment conference in San Francisco, where Whole Foods presented its plan for organic overconsumption:

The president/COO was giving an overview of the new store openings, and in addition to the store planned for Greenwich & Warren in Tribeca (which he said was opening sometime in the first quarter of next year), he confirmed that the store on Bowery & Houston in the Avalon Chrystie would be opening in April. He also let it be known they would be opening their first London store on Kensington High Street sometime in June. Not sure how much of this is public yet, but thought I'd pass it along.
Holy shit! Kensington High Street. Never saw it coming.

Yeah, I passed it the other day while shopping in London. It's not open yet, still in the re-building stages in fact. It has taken the space of my beloved Barker's, which was a small shopping centre - like a mini Selfridges. Damn. But I suspect it will do well there. Very good location for the type of people they are targeting.

As for the Tribeca Whole Foods, it must be the first quarter of 2008 (not next year) because the iron structure of that building isn't more than 4 or 5 stories yet.

I just was shopping on Ken High Street in London and saw that the Whole Foods is going to take over where Barker's was - which was a small shopping centre, like a mini Selfridges. It doesn't look like the new Whole Foods is anywhere near ready to be opened, and it's already mid Sept.
