157 Chambers Transforming into Artisan Lofts
Above left, it's 157 Chambers Street, a 16-story, 1930s-era office building that's currently being converted into residential living spaces with the name Artisan Lofts. Per a report last fall by David Lombino in the Sun, developers Tribeca Associates have teamed with BKSK Architects on the $10 million conversion, which when completed will cast a glow from "45 luxury apartments" as seen in the rendering (above right).
Earlier this week, a basic website for the development went live. A Curbed correspondent sends along some photos and this report: "Tribeca Associates put up the marketing on 157 Chambers Street yesterday (which is just down the street from their hotel to be). So if 'Chambers Street Suddenly Too Cool for You' then why did they buy the ground floor and second-floor condo units of an otherwise unassuming building at 143 Reade Street, to make their entrance? Apparently being sandwiched between McDonalds, Samurai Sam's Teriyaki Grill, Subway and Taco Bell Express wasn't going to make it easy to sell the monster 'lofts.' Barrie Mandel of Corcoran will have the listings."
