This 1929 duplex on Catalina Island, the tiny holiday spot off of the coast of Los Angeles, was designed by Hans Walner to look like a chapel in Santa Croce, Italy, or so says Curbed LA. The unit's listed for $1.88M, more than three times what the place went for two years ago.

This partially renovated six-bedroom, three-bathroom house has got all the staples of a converted church home: stained glass, steepled windows, stadium-style seating (?), an awkward amount of open space. But here's the best part: There's a "legit bell tower," according to Curbed Seattle. The listing asks $789,000, not too shabby for 6,300 square feet.

This loft in NYC's Greenwich Village is owned (but not for long!) by cookbook author Betty Fussell. The 1,351-square-foot space, tucked away in a 1846 Greek Revival church, has five skylights, glorious exposed beams, and a porch with Doric columns. The ask? $1.695M.

This small New England-style church plunked in the middle of Colorado is on the market for $445K. The exclamation points in the brokerbabble are laid on a little thick, but the claim that one can "look out the window and witness wild life!" doesn't seem to be hyperbolic: there are a couple of deer chilling on the front yard in one of the listing photos.

The only international listing of the bunch, this Toronto three-bedroom includes a chef's kitchen, media room, and 5,000-bottle wine cellar. Not really sure why it's touted as "Manhattan in Toronto," considering, as previously noted, its list price of $3.5M is only a fraction of what a similar listing would go for in a stylish part of Manhattan.

Oh, Texas. How oft must we be tempted by your cheap real estate? This nigh-15,000-square-foot manse with 11 bedrooms and an art studio (in the old choir room) all slides in under the million-dollar mark. The Dallas property is a duplex, and listing is for both units. That's a lot of house for $950K.

This Somerville rental has ceilings that "soar like a phoenix rising form Arizona," according to Curbed Boston. OK, so maybe the language is a little flowery, but the three-bedroom, 3.5-bathroom triplex has ceilings as high as 65 feet in some places. The monthly rent is $6,750 a month.

St. Joseph's Catholic Church in San Francisco isn't quite converted just yet, but some pretty cool plans are in the works. For instance, one loft will actually be located inside the dome, according to Curbed SF.

Get out of the major cities, and behold!: Converted churches for much, much cheaper. Take, for example, the Claverack Brick Church in Philmont, N.Y., on the market for $249,000. The place has 3,000-plus square feet and a bell tower.

This tri-level condo situated in Landmark Church of Brooklyn, N.Y., asks $1.65M for the two-bedroom, two-bathroom home in Cobble Hill.

In the Mississippi River town of Louisiana, Mo., sits this four-bedroom, two-bathroom single-family home carved out a 1868 church. It's $137K price tag is a breath of fresh air, but the brokerbabble is not particularly reassuring. One hears an alarm whenever a listing encourages buyers to "live adventurously!"

This 1885 converted Victorian church in Holyoke, Mass., is asking $249K. The Lincoln-Street single-family home has two bedrooms, two bathrooms, and, honestly, a rather off-putting entryway. It's all very 1970s, plus the stairs are awkward and it looks there's still a pew hanging around, and not in a cool, Brooklyn kind of way.

The decor could use some work, but this three-bedroom has the basics, including giant steepled windows and cathedral ceilings. Plus, the Red Springs, N.C., listing is only is listed for a relatively affordable $175K.

What this listing lacks in Cathedral ceilings it makes up in large living room windows. This two-bedroom, two-bathroom Chicago condo is a little blah, sure, but at $374K, it's a relatively affordable option for urbanites.
