Fantastic Design Shops in Sag Harbor; Editta Sherman’s Bittersweet Birthday

In this edition of Design Hunting, we toured some of Long Island’s loveliest design shops (Bloom, Neo Studio, and the new wellNEST included), lunched at Tribeca’s Smith & Mills, and attended the 99th birthday party of photographer Editta Sherman. The latter was a bittersweet occasion, as it was also her farewell soirée to living and working (since 1949!) in her studio apartment, located above Carnegie Hall. The party was attended by several of the building’s former residents (Bill Cunningham, architects Tod Williams and Billie Tsien, photographer Josef Astor), all of whom have had to seek new digs after the Carnegie Hall Corporation won its battle to evict them and turn their rent-controlled pads into new offices and studios.
