South Korea's Moon Hoon, one of the nuttiest architecture firms practicing today, has created a concrete-clad family home in suburban Yongin covered with beveled grooves reminiscent of the exterior paneling of the spaceships from Star Wars. Designed for a growing young family based on "the husband's childhood dream of becoming an astronaut," the Star Wars House looks like a chunk of a Star Destroyer given a residential conversion, but it's worth noting that it doesn't look all that different from Moon Hoon's other sculptural boxes and cartoonish chalets. It's quite possible that the firm was always building Star Wars homes, and has finally decided to embrace it.
The inside looks a good deal warmer than your average Star Wars interior, which is a boon for livability, but also a slight disappointment. The third floor, which is left open to the lower levels via a large central atrium, contains a secret playroom accessed through a concealed bookcase door, and is described by the firm as "a place high up that could be a control room for the future Darth Vader or a Jedi."
Moon Hoon, being Moon Hoon, sent out pictures of the home (↓) with Darth Vader and R2-D2 photoshopped outside. Maybe they saw the real-life Sandcrawler George Lucas built in Singapore, and decided to develop a body of work that could make them viable contenders for his next big endeavor.
