The Curbed Cup, our competition for the ski town of the year, is kicking off with 16 ski towns vying for the prestigious trophy. This week we'll have two matchups per day, and all the results and the full tournament bracket will be reviewed on Friday. Voting for each pairing ends 24 hours after it begins. Let the eliminations commence!

In the second round of voting for the Curbed Cup, Jackson Hole faces off against Killington Mountain Resort. That's a tough battle, because Jackson Hole has pulled out all the stops this year in honor of its 50th anniversary. The ski area's first new lift and terrain expansion since 1997 takes the form of the Teton Lift, a new quad that will provide access to awesome expert skiing. Skiers can also expect new groomed runs and a new on-mountain bistro. The town of Jackson (despite struggling with affordable housing), is as good as ever, with top-notch dining, close skiing to the newly-revamped Snow King, and a great late-night vibe.

While Jackson is some serious competition, Killington holds its own as the second highest peak in Vermont with over 3,000 vertical feet. The ski area is known for getting upslope powder and skiing in trees that will feel more like the west than the east. This year, in addition to the $1.2 million Killington is putting into various lift and mountain system upgrades, The Beast also opened its new on-mountain coaster, part of its $3.5 million investment in the Snowshed Adventure Center. For dining options, the Ovations restaurant at Killington Grand Resort Hotel is getting a $750,000 remodel. If all that wasn't enough, Killington will be getting an FIS World Cup ski race next year. In town, there's a serious après scene at spots like the Wobbly Barn.
