Follow Daniel Libeskind Around His Lower-Manhattan Loft

New, 1 comment

Polish-born starchitect Daniel Libeskind is known (and often bashed) for his super pointy, jaggedy buildings, but as it turns out, his own home is far less jarring. Nowness recently toured Libeskind's 2,100-square-foot loft in lower Manhattan, located just five blocks north of the now-completed World Trade Center site, which Libeskind oversaw as the master planner. The footage they got shows a rather spare space with classic modernist furnishings.

According to Nowness, Libeskind's place is decked out in designs by the likes of Le Corbusier, Marcel Breuer, Mies van der Rohe, Alvar Aalto, and Arne Jacobsen. Anyway, here's what Libeskind had to say about living in New York:

"I love it in the evening, because you can see how beautiful New York is. New York is a beautiful place, every building is a sculpture. Now it's got plumbing, so it's not a pure sculpture, but they are really abstract works of sort of lives, and I love looking at it. You can look at that window and notice there's a lamp, and there's somebody sitting, and there's a red object. I mean you can peer at it, even without being a voyeur, to see that In this very condensed environment, there is so much richness." "It's emotional living here, to see Ground Zero, from its dire tragic state to the fact that it's now a living neighborhood." The video is below.
