Zaha Hadid Collabs on Her First Otherworldly Airport Terminal

New, 2 comments

Starchitect Zaha Hadid has built a great many swoopy towers and has her fair share of controversial stadiums in the works, but so far she's never completed an airport. Well, the time may have come. Teaming up with French airport architecture specialist ADPI, Hadid is working on what's been billed as the "world's largest airport passenger terminal." The complex will be part of the massive new airport planned for the Daxing district of Beijing, across the city from the Capital Airport designed by Norman Foster.

Hadid has previously shared a proposal for an extension to Croatia's Zagreb Airport and was reported to be working on a new aviation hub for London, but so far, neither has materialized into anything concrete. Anyway, building on ADPI's winning bid in 2011, the newly unveiled renderings for the Daxing terminal show a milky star-shaped complex that's expected to accommodate an initial 45 million passengers per year. The building will feature a flexible layout that can adapt into different configurations and establish a connection to local and national rail services.
