Gryphon can manage an entire household’s internet activities

For parents and caretakers worried about the unfiltered internet activities of their minors—and outside forces—Gryphon may be just the product to help ease their minds. Developed by MiFi inventor (and fellow worried-parent) John Wu, Gryphon is a WiFi router that can manage the web-browsing activities of an entire household as well as its connected-home devices through an easy-to-use app.

Using the app, parents can grant or deny access to individual websites and suspend connectivity during various times of the day, whether by device or by child. Gryphon also monitors smart home devices to prevent hacking, cutting off access if they start to act out of their usual patterns. Users can even pause the internet with literally the touch of a button. And most conveniently, parents can grant real-time approval to website access requests from anywhere.

To stay on top of the ever-changing landscape of the internet, the app offers a social collaboration tool that allows families, friends, teachers, and other users to rate and recommend specific websites. And constant updates—from a threat database as well as for the device itself—means that families can rest assured.

The router itself is elegantly designed, resembling a small, twisted rectangular tower, and features the latest WiFi in technology, including 3Gbps and a Tri-Band Radio, allowing giving each device, whether old or new, its own data stream. It also provides coverage across 3,000 square feet, depending on the layout of the home, and monitors the health of your network.

First crowdfunded on Kickstarter, Gryphon is now ready to ship. For a limited time, a single mesh router is available for $199 (originally $249), or you can get two for $349 (originally $399). See how it all works in the video below.
