Celebrating 60 glorious years of a midcentury favorite

As far as we can tell, midcentury mania is still in full swing and with a new limited-edition release, Swiss furniture brand Vitra will offer fans another way to indulge in it. Indeed, Charles and Ray Eames’ iconic Lounge Chair, one of the most ubiquitous and replicated midcentury designs, is coming back with a twist.

To celebrate the 60th anniversary of the design, Vitra will release the armchair—along with its equally famous ottoman sidekick—in a new black twill fabric instead of the traditional black leather. This version will be available for just three months, from this November through January 2017. According to Dezeen, Vitra’s hope with this upholstery update is to create a “cozy softness and inviting warmth.”
