As one of the leading manufacturers of pianos, the company takes great pride in its manufacturing process. Steinway produces about 1,000 pianos every year, and they are built by 300 skilled craftspeople.
A Steinway and Sons grand piano has 12,116 parts. The wood used for the pianos has to be dried and seasoned for two years before it can even be used. Each piano has over 200 strings, and the soundboard can withstand up to 1,000 pounds of force.
