Some houses "bring the outside in" with large floor-to-ceiling windows and skylights. This radical black barn of sorts in the warm Japanese city of Anjo takes it to another level with huge cutouts all over the house's otherwise opaque shingle-clad structured. Conceived by Japanese firm Suppose Design Office, which previously delivered unorthodox residences of the hovering and transparent kind, the porous home for a family blurs the line between interior and exterior to create a breezy but covered space where children can play right next to the open-plan living and dining areas.
Marked by large concrete slabs, this space also features trees growing right under the giant openings. The breeze and fantastic natural light also extends to the second floor, where open walkways overlook the soaring play space.
