Continuing our appreciation of all things minimal and midcentury-inspired, we present to you this new series of sleek and quietly sexy furniture and lighting from Brooklyn-based design studio Coil + Drift's. We want everything—especially the Bishop Floor Lamp with its arcing brass neck and hexagonal ash-wood base—but any piece is sure to add a level of understated elegance to any space.
One of the stand-out pieces is the ash-wood Soren Chair, an exercise in extreme minimalism. Its back rest is fashioned with a single curving arch that nestles into its posts and is accented only with black leather, which also covers the seat.
The other showstopper is the Sylva Daybed, which features a rounded-edge frame constructed from white oak and propped up by six tapered legs. The foam cushion and bolster are covered in fabric that can be special ordered.
Then there's the June Mirror, which is framed by concentric circles carved into walnut wood and calls to mind the 1970s—an era that is definitely having a moment in both the decor and fashion worlds.
Other pieces include the Dusk coffee and side tables—with the geometric base available in brass or steel and table tops available in marble and salvaged wood—plus sideboards, wall lamps, desks, and shelving.
Coil + Drift was founded just two years ago in New York by dancer-turned-designer John Sorensen-Jolink and will be making its debut at the International Contemporary Furniture Fair (ICFF) this week.
