Attention all Frank Lloyd Wright enthusiasts! This week we celebrated the architect on what would have been his 149th birthday. And today, a rare Wright-designed home in Minneapolis has just gone up for sale for the first time ever—by its original owners.
The three-bedroom, 2,647-square-foot home was designed by Wright in 1958 and completed in 1960 for Paul C. Olfelt, a radiologist. The Olfelts worked with Wright personally before the architect’s death in 1959.
Entering the home is like stepping into a time machine. Built into a hillside on nearly four acres tucked at the end of a cul-de-sac, the brick house (asking price: $1,495,000) appears virtually untouched. It boasts distinctly Wrightian details, including huge windows, incredible original built-ins including seating, book shelves, cabinetry, and other furniture and fixtures, a massive sloping overhang—and a minimum of right angles.
The vaulted great room is the main attraction here, with built-in shelving running below its soaring windows, and a long built-in sofa on the opposite wall, and, of course, a hearth.
