Calling all architecture enthusiasts and cinephiles: A partial lineup of the annual Architecture and Design Film Festival (ADFF)—kicking off September 28—has just been announced. Curated by Kyle Bergman, the eighth edition of the festival will present over 30 feature-length and short films about design, architecture, urbanism and craft, as well as interactive programming including panel discussions, filmmaker Q&As, and networking events.
Opening ADFF will be Eero Saarinen: The Architect Who Saw the Future, a film directed by Peter Rosen and featuring Saarinen’s son Eric (who is also its director of photography) that explores the Finnish American architect’s life and work. Shot in 6K resolution using the latest drone technology, the documentary showcases Saarinen’s most iconic and influential projects through stunning visuals.
Other highlights include The Happy Film, about graphic designer Stefan Sagmeister who undergoes a series of self-experiments in attempt to achieve happiness, and two world premieres. The Architects: A Story of Loss, Memory and Real Estate follows the design competition for the new World Trade Center site, and Workplace, directed by Gary Hustwit of Helvetica, Objectified, and Urbanized, explores the past, present, and future of the office.
