The Snower Residence in Kansas City is believed to be only one of two Marcel Breuer-designed homes west of the Mississippi River. Like a few projects from the past, the home was borne out of a letter correspondence between prospective client and architect. In 1953, Robert and Marianne Snower wrote to Breuer after seeing his designs in a magazine and asked for an "exceedingly handsome" house. The home was completed in 1954, and the Snowers lived there until 2013, when Mr. Snower passed away.
Rob Barnes and Karen Bisset then bought the 1,776-square-foot three-bedroom (which was in good shape) and worked meticulously to restore it to its original specifications (mostly cosmetically), including painting some of the walls in their original blue and orange hues based on paint chips they found among the plans. This midcentury gem is now on the market for $925,000.
Below you’ll find a video re-imagination of the initial correspondence plus a tour of the home produced by Hufft Projects, a design collective that helmed the restoration of the Snower Residence.
