Hall of Famer Cal Ripken Jr., who spent his entire baseball career playing for the Baltimore Orioles, has just put his Reisterstown, Maryland mansion on the market for $12.5 million.
Even if you didn’t know that the six-bedroom home, which was custom built in 1985 and renovated in the late ‘90s, belonged to Ripken, visiting it and looking around might give you some clues. For instance, there’s the "First Run Theater," a baseball themed home theater. There is also an enormous gym, a full-sized basketball court, a professional-style locker room and training room, and, most tellingly, a baseball diamond with a stone on which the number 2,131 is engraved. (2,131 is the number of consecutive games played it took Ripken to top Lou Gehrig’s longstanding record.)
There’s also a batting cage.
In some ways, the mansion could be looked at as the ultimate collector’s item for a Cal Ripken fan, although if you buy the place you’re probably going to want to live there, too.
