Last time we checked in with AutoCamp, the Santa Barbara-born startup creating an "Airstream" glamping resort 90 minutes north of San Francisco, it was still an initiative under development with a Kickstarter campaign aimed at raising $55,000 to finish off the project. AutoCamp ended up getting more than double that amount and now, five months later, the Russian River location, surrounded by Northern California’s glorious redwoods, is all ready for guests.
Each of the 24 luxury Airstream trailers comes with a Queen-size Casper bed, flatscreen TV and audio sound system, kitchen with microwave and utensils, walk-in shower, a sofa that turns into a full-size bed, plus a deck and fire pit. The campground also includes 10 fully-equipped luxury tents and a midcentury modern-inspired communal "Clubhouse" designed by Dan Weber Architecture. Bay Area designer Lauren Geremia worked on the interior decor.
Perhaps not too surprisingly, glamping—a.k.a. turn-key camping without giving up any of the conveniences of everyday life—won’t come cheap. Nightly rates at AutoCamp Russian River start at $225 for Airstream suites and $139 for luxury tents.
