Dolce & Gabbana for Smeg fridges

Remember when Italian fashion house Dolce & Gabbana unveiled a collection of out-of-this-world fridge designs for Smeg? Well, a selection of the limited edition designs hand-painted by Silician artists and inspired by Sicilian traditions is now available stateside exclusively through the department store Neiman Marcus.

Though the original price was stated to be €30,000 (or about $35,000), the handful of designs available on Neiman Marcus are listed for an eye-popping $50,000 each, and that’s not including the $495 shipping cost. Wondering who might be up for this kind of kitchen splurge? Well, the answer is somebody, as one of the designs—inspired by Sicilian majolica and shown on the right below—is already “sold out” on the website.

For those fancying some wild kitchen appliances for easier-to-stomach prices, might we suggest looking into Dolce & Gabbana’s “Sicily Is My Love” collection for Smeg, which includes small kitchen appliances (Toaster! Kettle! Coffee maker!) with the same explosion of colors and patterns.
