Tiny house floats under an old railway arch

We’ve seen all manner of tiny houses—from prefabs to trailers to converted vans to one that doubles as a rock-climbing gym—but a “flying” one? Nope. Not until now, that is.

Painted black and suspended by steel cables under an old railway arch, the aptly named “Black Flying House” by Czech Republic-based firm H3T Architekti seems to appear out of nowhere.

A black ladder leads directly into the simple, gable-roofed structure (fine, it’s more a shack than a tiny house), which includes a living room, stove, and sleeping loft. A skylight and small windows provide light in the otherwise dark space.

There’s not much else to “Black Flying House” and its 1.7-by-2.5-meter footprint, which is maybe why we find it to be so strange, as if it came straight out of a horror movie. Blair Witch, anyone? Its stripped-down vernacular construction even calls to mind the The Witch—the Puritan one. Can’t you just imagine the family goat sidling up to you and whispering, “Wouldst thou like to live deliciously?”

You mean in the Black Flying House? Nah.
