These light fixtures double as high-tech planters

Instructions for keeping houseplants alive always feel frustratingly vague: Water infrequently, or until the top layer of soil feels dry to the touch. But make sure not to underwater or overwater your plant. Keep the plant in a sun-filled room, but avoid direct sunlight. Put the plant in a spot that is bright with filtered light. Plant should be kept moist, but not too moist. Mist the leaves, but only sometimes. We’re exaggerating—but not really.

Viride, a new collection of planters, or “experimental luminaries,” by Barcelona-based studio Goula/Figuera, attempts to solve the light problem by incorporating LED panels into its design. The result is a two-in-one decor object: planter as light fixture, providing illumination not only to the plant, but also to the room in which it is placed.

Viride comes in three models, each one designed for a specific type of plant. The LED panels can be programmed to provide the right amount of light depending on the plant’s needs. The larger models rotates so that all sides of the plant receive equal amounts of light, and even includes an ultrasonic air humidifier to help keep the atmosphere moist.

Another model was made for hanging plants and integrates light panels placed at different angles (it also rotates), and a third for air plants. Take a look at these mesmerizing vessels below.
