Iconic ‘2001: A Space Odyssey’ bedroom scene recreated in new installation

This one’s for all sci-fi lovers out there: Now you can now live out the ending scene of 2001: A Space Odyssey in a new exhibition that recreates the film’s iconic bedroom.

British artist Simon Birch and architect Paul Kember joined forces to recreate the space as part of an installation, titled ‘The Barmecide Feast’, in The 14th Factory, a new art space in a previously disused warehouse in Los Angeles’s Lincoln Heights neighborhood.

Although the film set was dismantled after shooting wrapped up in 1967, some of Harry Lange’s original sketches remain. Lange was the production designer for the film. Birch and Kember used these sketches to replicate the room in the last scene, which is set in a neoclassical bedroom and evokes an ethereal quality with white walls, luminous floors and extravagant Renaissance decor.

The iconic movie, regarded as one of the best films ever made, features some remarkable set design by Lange, who had also worked in the ‘future projects’ department at NASA.
