Prefab ‘treehouse’ retreat lets you sleep among the mountains

Rising in Mount Qiyun in the eastern Chinese province of Anhui, Treehouse M by lanD Studio delivers impressively on its name. Designed as a tranquil getaway for couples, the structure is raised high up into the treetops, appearing to float right in their midst.

This immersion into the natural surroundings was intentional: In order to minimize the construction impact on the site and shorten the build time, the architects prefabricated the series of steel and timber modular frames comprising the structure.

Accessed via winding wooden walkway from the road, the dwelling consists of a soaring 430-square-foot main living area with big curtains for varying levels of privacy, plus over 300 square feet of semi-covered terraces under cross-braced porticos. Full-height glass walls bring mountain views right to the bed, while a wooden bath on the terrace gets even closer to the landscape. Have a closer look, below.
