Charles Moore-designed postmodern house can be yours for $895K

Another house by postmodern architect Charles Moore has come on the market, this time in Williamstown, Massachusetts. Built in 1980, the home appears to have been untouched since then and bears the architect’s use of geometric volumes and combination of styles.

Villa Rotunda, as it’s called, measures 3,766 square feet and sits on a hill overlooking “hundreds” of daffodils that bloom in the spring, according to the listing. A columned portico with a striking circular skylight marks the entrance to the brick-and-stucco construction, which also includes multiple pediments and gable windows.

The four-bedroom residence gets its name from the great room, whose key feature is its overhead dome and “double walls.” Shelving is carved into these walls (and throughout the house), while a ring of perforated squares make up the base of the dome. French doors open up to a stone patio and a swimming pool.

The main level also comprises an open kitchen with sitting and dining areas, and a private master suite with study and bathroom. Three additional bedrooms and two bathrooms are found on the lower level, where there is access to a patio.

Although the mix-and-match nature of Moore’s design won’t appeal to everyone, it’s certainly unique. Located at 234 Ide Road, the home is offered at $895,000.
