Plain plywood and oriented strand board (OSB) have been used to create tiny dwellings, or otherwise insert integrated storage into a compact home, but to dress an entire penthouse with that raw material? A novel concept, for sure, one that this (small) London home for sale seems to be able to pull off (more or less).

Nicknamed the Water Tank, the rough-hewn one-bedroom duplex—on the market for the first time—is located at the top of modernist apartment building Keeling House and measures 653 square feet. Its aesthetic is “deliberately functionalist,” according to the listing, lending the penthouse—traditionally considered a “posh” dwelling type—a DIY spirit.

The entrance is on the 16th floor, while the home’s main level sits on the 17th and comprises an bright open-plan living and kitchen area. The walls and ceiling are lined in OSB, while the floor is polished concrete, and the compact kitchen a German “flat-packed” one. Electrical wiring is visible throughout the residence.

In contrast to the rawness of the space, full-height windows—part frosted and part louvered—provide stunning views on both the east and west sides as well as plenty of natural light.

Upstairs, on the 18th floor, is where the bedroom is located. A built-in platform bed with a child’s cubby bed below it and storage, also made from OSB, make up the room, while a skylight and an eastern-facing window provide illumination. The bathroom is also located here.

If the idea of raw petite-penthouse living appeals to you, then this pad on Claredale Street is all yours for £550,000, or about $716,000. Have a look.
