This light-up frame turns your plants into art

And helps keep them alive!

Houseplants are a powerful element of home decor, providing both beauty and air purification. But what if your home is a lightless dungeon incapable of supporting plant life? You’re in luck. Swedish studio Kauppi & Kauppi and manufacturer Glimakra of Sweden have created a novel plant stand with built-in illumination. And it’s not some bulky urban gardening system.

The Limbus Greenframe is an elegant item that looks a bit like a picture frame with legs. The natural wood plant stand rises four and a half feet tall and has room for three large plants. The top rail of the frame is embedded with a strip of LEDs that are turned on via a foot switch.

When filled with greenery the plant stand can also serve as a sweet room divider, functioning in a similar way to the studio’s line of acoustic floor screens.

“I wanted to investigate how much a floor screen could be simplified,” explained designer Johan Kauppi.

“When everything except the naked elegant wood frame was reduced, I became interested in seeing what it could be filled with. Perhaps my plants could fit in the frame? ...The result is a stripped and restrained furniture in solid wood, a mixture of a room divider, green furniture, and light fixture.”
