Renovating a house is no small challenge, but restoring a historic home’s charm—without sacrificing modern amenities—is an even bigger task. Take this five-bedroom, four-bath home in the Berkshires, for example. The main house was originally constructed in 1860 and a three-bedroom guest house is even older, dating to the 1740s.

Architect Digest AD100 architect and designer Daniel Romualdez took on the challenge of restoring both properties in 2009, updating the style and conveniences of the property with respect for its history. The result is magazine cover-worthy, with three wood-burning fireplaces, a chef’s kitchen, and an airy screened room with radiant floor heating.

The master suite boasts exposed wood beams to help warm the space, and it also includes a welcoming porch with views onto the property’s 85 acres. Outside, the guesthouse features even more original exposed wood and stone, and a five-stall horse barn and four-car garage complete the estate.

If you want to spread out in style in the Berkshires, 406 Canaan Valley Road is on the market now for $2,100,000.
