Old Victorian homes have been associated with Halloween’s haunts and horrors since the mid-to-late 19th century. But according to a Facebook group (and complementary Twitter feed) gaining popularity, there’s another horror at the heart of every home: our toilets.

Whether or not you agree, that’s the core idea behind Toilets With Threatening Auras Facebook page and the Twitter account that inspired it. It’s run by U.K.-based filmmaker “Phil,” and since its launch in June 2018, the Facebook page has amassed 200,000-plus likes and 50,000-plus followers on Twitter.

After a night out, Phil generally likes to “sit down and scroll through the internet and look at stupid things” friends, he told Curbed. And after one such night, he and a friend decided to launch a page dedicated to the best images of scary toilets.

Phil considers himself a pretty normal guy—with a strange Facebook and Twitter page. He’s grateful for the community of “wonderfully odd people” that have gravitated toward his page and says he tries to respond to every comment on the page.

“I generally get about 200 messages a day, so it takes quite a lot of time to sift through it all,” said Phil.

The most popular posts by far have tended to be comical rather than truly spooky; the post with the most impressions is a Polo Ralph Lauren toilet that, so far, has reached 1.5 million people.

And the second post with the most impressions is more ominous than straight-up scary. The photo features a single lone red-light emanating from the toilet in an otherwise dark room.

Phil’s biggest takeaway from running the account is probably what you’re all thinking, too: “The internet’s a really weird place,” he said.
