Neutral colors make this apartment a calming oasis

In contrast to the recent slew of color-filled apartments we’ve seen is this almost monochrome flat in the Belarus capital of Minsk. Designed by local firm Zrobym Architects, the one-bedroom residence answers to the clients’ wish for minimalist interiors that are also comfortable.

The result is a calm, neutral space (hence its name, the Buddha Apartment) characterized by light gray walls, pale wood floors, and simple, clean-lined furniture. Because of the flat’s efficient size (60 square meters or approximately 646 square feet) the architects created an open living area that flows into the eat-in kitchen—with a small partition that differentiates each zone.

It’s in the kitchen where the designers had a little fun. Floors are made up of tiles with a blue geometric pattern, while the Shaker-style counter fronts are painted a sage green. These bolder elements contrast nicely with white cabinets and a dark gray refrigerator.

The bedroom is similarly neutral, with matching pale wood furniture and “accent” pieces like a dresser and side tables painted in a very light aqua. What do you think? Does looking at this apartment take you to a calmer place?
