Homes clad in blackened timber are definitely enjoying their moment in the sun, popping up everywhere from Australia to Canada to the United States. There’s something so natural about the charred facade that makes it ideal for forest settings, which is why many of these homes are rustic weekend or vacation getaways found in the great outdoors.

Luckily, some are even available as rentals, like this sleek, minimalist construction clad in black larch slats that’s located on a peninsula off the coast of Scotland’s Isle of Skye. Designed by local practice Dualchas, Black H, as it’s called, is a simple dwelling comprising two volumes with glazed walls on either end.

An open kitchen and dining area, plus a living room just a few steps below, occupy one half the holiday home, while the bedroom is located on the other. Windows are strategically placed to frame panoramic views of Loch Vatten toward Macleod’s Tables to the north and across Loch Bracadale toward the Cuillin ridge to the south.

The interiors are bright and feature white walls, concrete floors, warm wood furniture, and other neutral colors, as well as a couple of sections clad in the same charred timber as on the exterior. This continuity furthers the already strong indoor-outdoor connection. Black H is available to rent through Urlaubs Architektur. Take a look.
