In addition to envisioning sweeping buildings on a grand scale, the late Zaha Hadid and her practice were also known for designing small objects, from sculptural vases to organic furniture to jewelry.
Now a hat can be added to the collection. Inspired by the Zaha Hadid Architects-designed condo at 520 West 28th Street by the High Line park in Manhattan, the futuristic H-Line hat, as it’s called, echoes the curving lines of the facade. Its molded plastic form creates a brim that flips up at the front and swoops down to a point in the back. Rendered in an ombre of white to a shocking blue, the topper stands apart as a particularly colorful objet.
The hat was designed by Zaha Hadid Architects director Patrik Schumacher as part of a “hat party” fundraising event for Friends of the High Line, the nonprofit organization founded in 1999 that oversees the maintenance, operations, and public programming for the elevated linear park.
