The never-ending quest to declutter has given the world plenty of ways to spend money while keeping tidy. You can purchase boxes that cost more than some dressers or hire a consultant who will come to your house to help you tidy up.
Now you can add buying a purse to that list. French luxury leather goods maker Longchamp has been making its convertible Le Pilage purse for years, but its newest version—the Katachi collection—takes shape-shifting to a whole new level. Designed with the help of Japanese design house Nendo, the new Le Pilage doubles as a household storage container.
As Fast Company reports, the purse requires a simple change. Add an insert to the bottom and the floor becomes stiff enough to stash whatever it is people put in empty boxes. Remove the insert, and you’ve got a purse with leather handles. Nendo designed two other versions of Le Pilage—a foldable circle and triangle—but the cube is by far the most inspired.
Is a purse that turns into a basket really all that practical? Honestly, probably not. But it has its own form of brilliance: Le Pilage makes room for buying and stashing even more purses.
