Located in Palm Beach, Florida, this four-bedroom, four-and-a-half beauty was the first commission of the late architect John Volk. Known for creating homes for the rich and famous in Florida and other resort communities like the Bahamas, Volk built a reputation on lavish design. Many of his early projects were in the Mediterranean Revival style, but throughout his career the architect sought to bring the outside in through windows, pools, and verdant gardens.

This 4,459-square-foot residence was constructed in 1925 with the help of Gustav Maass, an apprentice to another Palm Beach legend: Addison Mizner. A recent restoration reworked the home’s floorplan to make it more open, but much of the original style remains.

The home features a red tiled roof with an elaborate wood portico at the entrance. You’ll find elegant ornamentation and arched windows throughout, with many windows looking out onto a pool and garden courtyard. The kitchen is splashy and new, with a gray-blue navy and marble island. Upstairs, the master bedroom leads out to a wrought-iron and wood balcony and a bathroom with an oversized freestanding tub.
