Modern indoor-outdoor home makes a dreamy forest escape

Like dominos in a row, five rectangular volumes line up one after the other to make up this breezy getaway on the island of Ibiza, Spain.

Designed by architect Marià Castelló Martínez to play nice with the lush forest surroundings, the clean-lined residence lays low to the ground in order to not disrupt the landscape of pine and juniper trees. The volumes are clad in drystone walls that have been painted white, while slats of cross laminated timber peek through to create some warmth and visual connection to nature.

Across the home, it’s all about embracing the indoor-outdoor lifestyle. The first three volumes are connected by glassy corridors and contain the bedrooms and main shared spaces like the kitchen and living room. The fourth volume is an extension of the patio, with doors that open to an outdoor seating area and pool. The guest studio is placed all the way across the patio in order to provide ample privacy.

Though the volumes are physically separate, they’re connected by a strict adherence to the beachy minimalist aesthetic. The interiors showcase laminated timber ceilings and natural limestone floors. The occasion pop of black—a hanging wood burning fireplace or a dangling pendant, for example—creates a cool contrast that might be light on color but big on style.
