Welcome to Curbed’s Advent-calendar gift guide. For each of the 25 weekdays before Christmas, we will be doling out, one by one, the gifts recommended by dozens of design bigwigs with extremely good taste. So keep checking in daily for new drops.
Interior designer Jennifer Hunter has been using these gilt-edged Smythson planners — the covers of which can be monogrammed in gold — since 2009. “I got hooked when I visited Smythson’s Madison Avenue store soon after I moved to the city. It’s been a staple in my work tote since,” Hunter says. (She’s not alone: Writer Leah Bhabha says her Smythson “makes every appointment and illegible note just a bit more glamorous.)
At the end of each year, Hunter says, she doesn’t toss her planner. “I love to hang on to them as a year in review both personally and professionally,” she says. And once you’ve amassed a couple years’ worth, “they look beautiful stacked on a bookshelf.”
