If you have a fear of heights, don’t take a dip at Houston’s Market Square Tower. The luxury high-rise’s 40th-story rooftop pool extends 10 feet beyond the face of the building. And that extension is made of glass. Swimmers will have the thrill of paddling about 500 feet above the street, while watching pedestrians stop and stare from below.

“We thought it would be an attention grabber, and it has been,” said developer Philip Schneidau in an interview with Paper City last year. Inspired by a pool concept in Dubai, the developer called in a consultant and building team with experience creating such show-stopping pools. The acrylic glass used for the Market Square Sky Pool is eight inches thick.

Designed by local firm Jackson & Ryan Architects, the building was only just finished in November 2016, and rental prices range from $1,800 a month for a studio to $18,700 a month for a pool-adjacent penthouse.
