No, I never said anything about rent control or price control (which I do not support). I said that LA is in the middle of an affordability crisis, which is 100% true based on price/income ratio which is the worst in the entire country.
There are multiple ways to deal with this, including increasing supply (as you mention) or decreasing demand, such as by moving jobs to outer areas, reducing commercial zoning, etc. There could also be a tax on short-term flips. I support any of those solutions or any other solution that brings down the market rate of housing.
But that does not take away from the fact that the price/income ration in LA is causing real problems in the city and this author is completely out of touch with important issues. The article is vapid, superficial, and frankly insulting to all of the people suffering under the current state of affairs.

Los Angeles is in the middle of a housing affordability crisis. The housing market is causing real problems all over the city, and especially in minority and low income neighborhoods. Yet the concern here is that 10 million dollar homes are designed with ikea furniture? How out of touch can this author be?

Great news. Affordability is a net benefit to everyone except real estate agents and near term sellers.
